Hungary is an EU member. At this point it's about as much a democracy as Russia, just doing it smarter. Don't count on the EU, it has little control or initiative on the matter of the rule of law.
Oligarchs don't care about the European Court either. So what if they rule against the country 10 years after the fact? Just come up with a populist message about "Brussels" and let the tax payers shoulder the fines. It's basically a smart way to convert state wealth into private wealth. It won't matter to us if it happens. Basically, I think this is what made Keith accept CEZ as a 51% partner.

Granted, Czechia is behind Hungary and Poland on the path to a full fledged Oligarchy, and Babis doesn't have the qualified majority required to catch up quickly (i.e. eliminate the remaining institutions completely and take control of press) but it's not for lack of trying and an absolute majority goes a long way.

Keith has acted rationally so far, I honestly believe he knows he can't have any trust in any agreement made and manages the company accordingly. There are so many ways this can end. A realistic worst case is perhaps what happens to BCN now. A realistic best case is that the deal Keith made will actually be honoured for the time being because there's enough of opportunity to make big money around this new Czech battery supply chain being built 'for the benefit of the country'.

Like I said, we probably have a very different view on events based on a very different personal experience and world view.
