    " Your lack of planning is not my emergency "

    That's a classic that rings true.

    Unfortunately, our federal government's lack of planning is our emergency.

    Dilly dallying on power policy for more than a decade has meant that our power stations are getting more unreliable and their replacements haven't been forthcoming.

    That's why we have solar and windfarms that are either held up being connected or severely curtailed because the infrastructure to support them has not been built.

    With regard to evs, they could already be helping with that. In order to deal with the daily duck curve, parked evs could be charged during the day and giving back to the grid for the shoulder period in the evening or in the early morning.

    Ev battery storage for the grid is an absolute free kick. The car is purchased for transport but can have a valuable second use for grid management. In effect, the grid services come for almost free while we spend years building out things like Snowy 2.0.

    A smart planner would already have this factored in and had a target established.
