I was looking at the Nikon D90 recently, went to the camera shop, tried it out and was happy with the feel of the unit. Really hard to judge just from one handling though. It's an earlier model to the d5000, but more of a 'pro' type camera. The reason I liked it was from the description, it has an automatic cleaning (vibrating) function that ensures quality pictures for much longer, especially if you are changing lenses from time to time. Both the D90 and D5000 come with the HD movie function.
Suggest you handle both models you are interested in, and particularly, go to a specialist camera shop for advice.
Also, check the prices on ebay, as I purchased a Nikon for a friend via ebay and it was half the price of the Australian cameras. They have had no trouble with it, and were able to buy an extra lens with the saving.
