They only own 70% of the project anyway (and I know that does not affect what your post said) - I think a Japanese steel maker owns the rest. If they are seriously looking for a buyer of that 70%, one would think that the Japanese firm would be the first approach.
If Savage river has another 15 years of mine life and expanding the central pit and starting the UG process (I believe they have approvals to do both) and that extends the mine life at 3mil tonnes annual production to 2050 which I think came up in one of the reports, then maybe off-loading SD is a good call. Over the next 30 years, who knows what the IO price and demand will be.
