    Hi S8,
Know a few O&G's, not that much money in the obstetric half. That and the incessant litigation, or fear of it, has quite a few heading for gynae only. Promise you, you dont do obs for the bucks.

An interesting exercise is asking female nurses[including midwives] and female doctors whether they would like a home birth, vast majority will run for the hills, not just the evil patriachy working here.

Putting aside arguments of efficacy, because probably irrelevent in this situation anyway.
Independent home birthing midwifery is just not going to be viable financially, unless we are prepared to allow people to practice without adequate indemnity insurance.
Even if their insurance was subsidized, as it is with obstetricians, the figures don't stack up.

If inadequate insurance, if a mother or baby is damaged by negligence, no money to repair the damage or to provide support.
Keep in mind, if insurance can be found, no problems with registration.
    What , no insurance available?
    Wonder why?
Might it just be possible, that hard nosed gamblers like underwriters, feel the risks to their money are not worth the premiums that can be got from the midwifery business.
Real estate agents, financial planners , indeed most professionals cant practice without coverage. Is that a bad thing?
    cheers
