I think 300MW refers to output of the batteries and the 580MWH refers to the total storage capacity of the batteries, so operating at maximum capacity (300MW) it can run for almost two hours before running out of power (580 / 300 ~ 2).
It appears they were using 1M homes as a nice round number, but might have been better served to say 250K homes for two hours (unless somehow the batteries can be discharged at four times the maximum output...).
