If this trend to lower exploration continues existing producers may want to continue producing by buying known commercial fields (read Dorado and hopefully Buffalo) along with some potential (Apus etc) at bargain or low prices. In this way they can continue what they do well (produce) leaving the exploration to the likes of CVN who do this well. It would reduce the lead time finding the stuff and allow producers more near term certainty as we moves towards 2050. IMO there is a case to be made for a major taking a share of Dorado from STO and taking out CVN at a realy cheap price. An offer over 50c (100% premium to current SP) may seem attractive to many frustrated short term holders who are just in it for the quick buck.
