The environmental impact report re-shared by@Micreg should give us Talga investors confidence that Mark and team are well advanced in their engagement with local indigenous groups & ensuring the mine design/operations accommodate any sensitive environmental issues. This is reinforced in the DFS by reiterating there is no major issues impacting approval timelines.

I thought it would be also worth sharing a couple of snippets from the document for those that haven’t read it in relation to underground mining. We know the design for Nunasvaara Sth will be open pit to begin with, but as Mark mentioned in the CSIRO interview that there is hundreds of years of reserves of graphite Talga has and the seams run very deep. Talga’s potential JV partner , LKAB, are specialists in underground mining and are moving towards electrifying their operations to be a Net Zero company.

While the early years of operation might be more visible with the starter pit, as time goes on the mining operations will likely move to underground, therefore minimising the surface footprint & ameliorating many of the concerns to reindeer herding, noise and loss of amenity. (See sections highlighted below)

In one of Mark’s recent presentations, he refers to the synergies with LKAB as ‘amazing’, so I think there will be some very clever design work going on behind the scenes that will not only help with ensuring we get the necessary approvals but also ensure the operations are run economically.

Mark’s cryptic hints on Twitter suggest he is very confident with the direction negotiations/partnerships are going behind the scenes. In addition to FREYR MOU, i strongly suspect they will also be a preferred supplier to Stellantis given they selected graphite as their preferred active anode & could be factored into our UK expansion plans given they are now building a factory there in addition to mainland Europe. The big fish however will be Northvolt and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them pop up as a very welcome third wheel in the JV funding structure alongside Mitsui & LKAB. Plenty to look forward to this year.
