While you focus on the individual, I focus on the Aus and what's best for Aus.. China for example has a GDP/Capita of about $14K but its military budget alone is over half our complete budget & 8 times that of our military and its GDP is $14 Trillion USD, or over 9 times the size of Aus and its position in the World reflects that while Aus with a GDP/capita 5 times that of China are merely a minnow. If we had a population comparable to Canada with our current GDP/Capita we'd have a GDP $2.7 trillion which might even squeeze us into the G7 rather than having our Adman eavesdropping from the flies in Cornwall a month ago The Government's fair wage Commission has limited the minimum wage to $20.25/hr. which effects 2.2 million Aussies at least , If the Government wished to lift this minimum wage then it could do so. IMO that should be $30/hr which would encourage those on Welfare/unemployment to get out there and work. Even if the Government exempted those on minimum wage of PAYE this would add $3600 P/A to their take home pay.

I think quality of life, good wages, and environmental sustainability are more important than entry to the G7, or blindly growing GDP via importing more people.
