In regards to pyke who plays for the swans he was a forward. yes sure enough he is a ruckman but still has to posess the basic skills such as kicking straight and handballing keiran jack another example made the transition from playing junior rep league to AFL quite easily.
And in regards to being able to catch overheard mate i see more people drop the ball in AFL then every other sport prime example West Coast vs Freo last saturday night i think even Matt Dunning could get a run not very high skill level at all. Watching players for the melbourne demons take set shots on goal against the swans was terrible.
So yes you do see a lot of skillfull players in afl such as rioli , that new fella who playes for the demons , But then you can see some realy realy bad skill errors as players who cant kick a ball straight through 2 post from 20 metres out with little to no angle.
