River crossings are related to the transportation, so I have revived this topic.
Most long-time investors know that the river crossing at Mulongo of the Lualaba river, which is approx. 250m wide will involve ferry’s 2 of them to be acquired. It has been mooted that the Ferry’s will be modular and trucked to Mulongo site to be assembled.
The modular ferry concept is quite a clever concept and the links below demonstrate that subject to picking the most suitable vendor this is a very effective way of crossing the river with large trucks, with hopefully sometime at a point in the future a permanent crossing is established which may be either rail or road.
The links below are to demonstrate the concept of how it can be done, there is no suggestion that AVZ are in negotiations with this supplier, so this is simply to illustrate the concept, and it is not a product flog for the supplier, it is just that they have the best examples to demonstrate the ability of these modular ferries to make crossings with heavy trucks in Africa.
However, this supplier is situated in Africa and would be a tick for utilising suppliers in Africa as a condition of financing by Pan African consortium, however there may be other suppliers as well that are suitable. To reiterate this is not a product flog, just interesting information for HC discussion.
For the engineers on Hot Copper the last link is interesting, you can build your own ferry, perhaps we could build a larger one for more than 1 road train at a time.
These ferries should be able to handle the waves on the river (cough, cough)
