I just read the following article:

Chevron concedes CCS failures at Gorgon, seeks deal with WA regulators

So, if I understand this article correctly, the Australian government invested $60m of tax payer funded money into a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project,

" .... selecting it as a core technology under its Technology Investment Roadmap and using it as justification to pour significant amounts of public funds into its development."

Yet, The Climate Council's Tim Baxter notes:

Over the past decade, the costs of renewable energy like wind and solar have plummeted. Over the same period, CCS has remained extremely expensive. There are still no projects operating anywhere in the world that have delivered CCS on time, on budget, or in the quantities promised.”

While 5 million tones of CO2 have been sequestered, this falls 70% short of what Chevron was committed to:

".... The storage was one of the key conditions for state government approval."

I can only wholeheartedly agree with the final conclusion:

CCS is simply an attempt to prolong the life of polluting fossil fuels which are driving climate change. We need to transition away from burning coal, oil and gas and instead power our economy with renewables and storage,” Baxter added.
