Everyone has a different measurement of failure so we wil never agree. Form your own opinion but dont question others that see define failure differently. There are no results published so everyone is speculating

Maybe they always though saliva samples could be an issue but were confident the results would still be exceptional. When the results were not as high as hoped they now have to eliminate the dodgy saliva samples as a potential cause. If that was the case then I would call it a set-back & not a failure. Who knows, but from my experience you do not proceed with a project if there is no chance of success as otherwise you are just throwing away time and money.

If they eliminate any external factors and still dont get the results then maybe we can call it a "failure".
