Maybe the saliva delay isn't around sensitivity issues, but contamination? If you've ever taken a dna test (e.g. Ancestry) you'll know that you had to withhold food, drink, smoking and chewing gum for a full 30 minutes before spitting into the tube.
If the Eugeni test requires "clean" samples to work properly, that would mean putting people in a holding area for half an hour prior to testing (to ensure these directions are followed). Can't see that being popular in mass testing scenarios.
So the test would need to be able to work with whatever food particles or drink are floating around in miniscule particles in the saliva. Quite a challenge I would think?
