I would argue that reducing the effects of mmcc might be very helpful for the " hundreds of millions of people living in sub-Saharan Africa ". All those subsistence farmers that struggle to make a living hardly need increased weather changes due to man made climate change. Especially when they are being affected by increased CO2 emissions that they haven't generated themselves.
I reckon they'd be pretty grumpy looking at the opulent lifestyle we are enjoying in the west that is possibly causing the changes to the weather they are trying to farm in.

Speaking of oil price spikes ? Did you mention OPEC btw ? Do they take into consideration the plight of those people you talk about when they are setting the price of oil ?

Happily, renewable energy is now cheaper than fossil fuel. It is also much more flexible. Not only will renewable energy continue to get cheaper,
unlike fossil fuel which is only getting more expensive as you point out , it is becoming available to people in very remote places to give them a better standard of living. Solar powered lighting. Solar powered water pumps. Solar powered water desalination, Solar powered effluent treatment. Solar powered irrigation. Solar power for school computers.
Wars aren't fought over solar power. Warlords don't control the amount of sun or wind getting to remote communities.
Fossil fuel, because of it's limited supply, is only going to get more expensive. Especially as we run low on your " clean coal " supplies. Renewable power price hasn't bottomed yet. It is going to get considerably cheaper which is going to lift more of the Africans you talk about out of poverty. Enabling them to feed themselves, improve hygiene and educate themselves via the internet. Fossil energy has been available to for at least 150 years and yet these poor people still have very restricted access to it. Ironically despite it being produced on the continent they live on.
