The need has always been the same. Energy storage is required in order to transform intermittent generation into despatchable baseload, capable of supplying any shortfall but ALSO providing the necessary INERTIA to the grid such to maintain frequency/phase coherence within limits.
The batteries all fail to provide the first function due to their limited capacity relative to the demand, i.e. hundreds of megawatts versus gigawatts. Secondly, it is unknown as to, if they were to pass the first requirement, whether they would simulate anything near the required inertia of a synchronous machine.
So we hear all kinds of stories about needing to keep gas-peaking online ad-infinitum so as to provide this grid stability.
Your ad hominems are not at all working. I suggest you grow a few more years before thinking you can take on all comers.
