I heard some talk at one stage that Woolworths were considering taking over Mitre Ten.
Mind you, I also heard talk that Mitre Ten had a plan to roll out a citywide chain of large trade centres here in Brisbane, but besides one in Beenleigh (where there is no Bunnings) this never came to fruition.
With BBC gone, the only way Woolies could possibly even pretend to compete with Bunnings would be to buy out and revamp Mitre Ten.
Bunnings will continue to sap market share from its competitors. Like the article (which I have just read) states, the only competition going forward could come from places like Costco.
