@Jim910; I was directed to the Emergency Department of a large regional hospital when my GP diagnosed that I had a massive PE and was at acute risk of sudden death. My GP rang the hospital to advise them I was on my way
I waited for over four hours in the Emergency Department before being taken for a CT scan and subsequent treatment. I was then advised my chances of making it through the night was 50:50 and kept all night on a bench in the ED because there were no other beds available and a plane flight to Melbourne considered far too dangerous.
Neither the hospital nor its staff were to blame for what happened - they were being run off their feet all night and the hospital was over-committed and under-resourced and that despite the pandemic.
Even though Australia's PAYE taxpayers earning above $28,000 pa contribute 2.0% of their income every year to Medicare, our federal government has slashed and burned our public health systems by starving the states of funding so they can $Feed $Greed.
