Quite a pickle. You have local/council residence wanting the mine to be blocked, however I can also see the FEDS wanting this as part of a critical supply chain. Knowing the US government, they don't give a rats angus for the people when it comes to money/national security.
IE Biden shut down the Keystone Pipeline just like that a few months ago.
