Admittedly, first dose of astra and pfizer seem to have the same efficacy - its the second dose where Pfizer splits itself as better. So surely... the better approach if we're short of vaccine, because Slomo decided to preference the less effective one.. (we won't forget that next election sunshine. You think we will, but we won't...) is to say "both are equally effective on the first shot, so get the first shot Astra, if you are worried and can't wait for Pfizer - and then have your second shot as Pfizer". Right? Where's the problem there though... Oh, that's right - if you got Astra, you're meant to wait 12 weeks (!!) before you get your second shot. Ah, but it turns out... for peak effectiveness, you should also wait 12 weeks before you get your second Pfizer shot....

Wednesday's study found that two doses of Pfizer's shot was 88% effective at preventing symptomatic disease from the Delta variant, compared to 93.7% against the Alpha variant, broadly the same as previously reported.
Two shots of AstraZeneca vaccine were 67% effective against the Delta variant, up from 60% originally reported, and 74.5% effective against the Alpha variant, compared to an original estimate of 66% effectiveness.
