I have enjoyed reading your recent posts; they have been interesting and informative and what the PNV thread should be about.
However, I would like to make one point.
Pharmaceutical companies spends fortunes developing new drugs (BTM is in effect a new drug, one which has been in development for about 15 years), either that or companies spend a slightly smaller fortune trying to get around someone else's patent by adding an atom or two to the chemical structure.
With the first approach (developing a new drug eg. BTM) there is no guarantee that the drug will work as predicted or indeed work at all. With the second approach (making something similar), there is again no guarantee that the copy will have the same properties and work in the same way.
So yes, a company can spin out a new synthetic polymer and say look we have one too (biodegradable synthetic matrix). But the questions remain, does it work like BTM, does it work at all.
There is something about the way that BTM works that makes it special - my own theory is that it induces an inflammatory response which promotes healing and then before the inflammatory response becomes too severe and impedes / distorts healing, it dissolves away, producing the best possible outcome.
DW once described BTM as a gift from god. I would simply say that this statement was not hyperbole but a statement of fact.
