If you look at the graph for a country with a poor covid response, like the US, deaths are way up. I think it's more complicated than just looking at average mortality rates though. When lockdowns were enacted, the highways were deserted, so road fatalities would have decreased, and there would have also been less transmission of other diseases like measles. You could get less overall deaths due to less people at work having accidents. I have shares in AVH, which developed a system for treating burn injuries. During lockdown, the number of burn victims plummeted. So with covid, you really have to ask what the overall mortality figures would look like under a business as usual scenario, with road accidents etc in conjunction with poorly mitigated covid. Didn't the Swedes end up regretting their approach? Their graph looks pretty bad. It's kind of a big experiment, with different countries taking different approaches, so there will be a lot of learnings from this. It'll help us prepare for the next pandemic. What's frustrating is that the HX is a great way to reduce the number of people on a work site, so FBR should flourish in a pandemic, especially if brickies catch covid and have to go into isolation.
