@NoBoDe thanks for posting that - I meant to post of what I know personally - (and it's getting boring, I know): - my native City of Vienna - has a waste incineration program, and the incinerator is fairly close to the city, it's a beautiful building ('decorated by a modern artist someone called 'Hundertwasser') - where much of the city's waste is burnt so efficiently, there is no smell and very little smoke - and the gases and hot water created go right back into a central heating system which supplies some of the extensive council flats (built in the 1920s) with cheap heating.

We already have the technologies to utilise waste, but what we have here in Australia are cities which consist mostly of individual houses on 1/4 acre blocks and this fact alone makes a system as described above, impossible - but we may find individual solutions for our individual homes, but this will then depend on the whim and will of the owner. It can all be done but good leadership and a wilingness to invest by the State (taxes!! ouch!) are vital first steps.
