think about when you apply for a CC, your serviceability for that credit card will be judged on the calculations made from the information on the application.
if approved for the CC and sometime in the future a situation happens like losing your job you still get to keep the CC and continue spending, even if your serviceability in the new circumstances has decreased to the point you would be denied that same CC if a new application had to be made.
afterpay are doing a check on every purchases in real time and deciding your serviceability for each purchases. the limit customers get is a possible maximum (but its not guaranteed to be approved) situations change rapidly and doing a real time check is much better than just giving a credit limit that under future circumstances you may not have done so.
