Extreme nuggety gold is both a blessing and a curse for Lachlan fold belt goldminers. It is a blessing because the coarse nature of the gold simplifies treatment and improves rates of recovery. Deposits with surface expressions tend to be well signposted. Coarse gold in the orebodies weathered to coarse grains in streams and gullies. This attracted the attention of early prospectors. Hence the signposts. Coarse gold is also likely to improve the overall grade of an orebody.

One reason coarse gold is a curse is because it is very difficult to measure a resource without actually mining it. A drill core can pass through high grade ore and easily miss the pieces of nuggety gold. HEG geologists will be regularly logging drill core. Some of it will be high grade, but only occasionally will core include nuggety pieces of gold. High grade drill core will be produced by the company over the coming weeks and there is a chance some of it will contain visible, coarse gold. Not a big chance, that is the nature of nuggety gold ore.
