Agreed but it takes but a minute to pen a failure report that meets ASX accurate disclosure rules.
How long does it take to put together a report about striking oil? you don't want to hype the market, you don't want to under or overstate the discovery, so the regulations would require a professional signed off statement of facts, that takes a few days, imho.
Same when a miner finds Gold, the ASX announcements give yields at various thicknesses, an assessment of the inferred ore body contained ounces, all these things need technical reporting.
Of course option 3 is they are still drilling and will not bother to say they are still drilling, not exactly price sensitive information, just nice to know.
