To the best of my knowledge, stop loss and other conditional orders do not exist (at the ASX) until triggered by whatever it is that will trigger them (volume/price/some other stock price etc), which is one reason they sometimes do not get hit -- because they didn't make it to the line in time.
But it's a safe bet that many stop loss orders will be triggered by a sudden drop.
