Dunno Rob, shaft sinking probably costs more than declining. I reck'n for a shaft the size at Morning Star (3 or 4 compartment?) say a hole 4 x 1.5m (to fit the timber inside etc) probably pulling 1.5m cuts,,, about 9m3 +30% swell factor +12m3'ish' Probably not enough room to use a much bigger kibble than say 1/2 -3/4 ton. there would be only room to hand bog,,, it would then need to be hoisted to the plat to be transferred to an ore truck to hoist to the surface. You would need to set up a penthouse above the shaft sink and I doubt that you would be allowed to hoist in the shaft while blokes are working underneath these days, so I'm guessing that while the shaft is being sunk the cage would be out of action except for manriding,, dunno,, I think (just my opinion) that over a 12h shift a crew may get 1 x cut maybe 1.5 cuts,,,, not counting fitting the shaft timbers/services etc which would probably be kept say 5-6m back from the sump.
I reckon you would get say 20tonnes a shift out,,,maybe.
Stripping the adit to say 3.5m or 4m (just guessing,,, a small contactor would probably charge say $1800 per/m advance for a 4m x 4m and I's day that the total cost to the Co would be around $3000 per/m (including contractor) would be cheaper, safer and expose the Co to less risk, compliance and maintenance costs imo
