A friend of mine who is an engineer in renewables specializing in wind energy told me he used to know an engineer at Carnegie ages ago. Apparently this person said that the forces that used to pass through the submerged equipment were insane. I guess this places enormous stresses on the gear, and would result in a lot of damage over time. I thought it was an interesting little insight worth sharing.
