    Greens question $50b gas deal
By Online parliamentary correspondent Emma Rodgers

The Greens have questioned whether the deal is in Australia's best interests.

PetroChina has agreed to buy $50 billion worth of liquefied natural gas - 2.25 million tonnes a year over the next two decades - from the yet-to-be developed Gorgon field off the coast of Western Australia.

The Government says the gas field will create $40 billion worth of revenue and 6,000 jobs at the peak of its construction.

But Greens Senator Christine Milne says the deal should have been higher.

"These deals have been shown time and time again to have been done in a way that is very, very cheap, and in the long-term not in the best interests of the country," she said.

"We need to have enough gas in the future as a transition fuel in an age of peak oil."

    .... "

Now I think I understand her position ...

We can't sell it too cheaply to the Chinese ... cause we need it for our own transition energy source ... BUT ... we the Greens won't officially sanction it ... since its not a renewable energy source

    YEAH that makes perfect sense!
