If you were WD and were told we had exceeded DRAM speed, scaled down to around 10nm and unlike the public, knew the retention (there is so much riding on this figure), would you:
1. Wait for 4DS to get bench time at imec and hope the iteration worked, or
2. Thanks, but we’ll take it from here and control our own destiny.
I think a licensing deal is most likely for number 2 at this stage, but if 4DS is a DRAM killer then you would think an opportunistic bid is the only chance of ownership for WD.
