agree in that it is an interesting debate.
if i recall correctly,when the current president and his parliament declared support for hussein in gulf war 1,the american oil majors were told to pull out of mauritania.
lets say the government gets rolled,and an extremist anti america/israel regime gets into power.(call them fundamentalist/anti western)
you can argue they still need the oil dollars,but would it be possible doing business with them?
george bush comes to mind with that extremely stupid "your with us or against us" address.
exerting pressure on shell (english/dutch) by the usa could filter down to wpl,hdr roc and the whole roadshow comes to a grinding halt.
risk is huge ,and commensurate in terms with the reward.
the biggest risk i see is the current government recognising israel,the only other muslim country being libya, having rolled over and getting there tummy tickled like a pet dog by the usa.that would put these 2 countries squareley in the sights of 1 billion muslims,should the war on terror continue for the unforeseable future.
