There is no argument here bellenuit. Just my thought that if they wanted money, they could have done exactly what ANZ had done (reserved the right to increase the level of monies from the small investors)and saved the expense of returning monies. Except that perhaps they weren't in as strong a bargaining position with the instos as were ANZ.
Also, the instos only put in $2 billion at $21.5 per share.
In hindsight, NAB could have got almost everything they wanted without the help of the instos. Wouldn't that have given all the mums and dads a nice warm feeling ? And without having to incur the costs of returning monies, NAB could have come out better off perhaps. The fact that I am here tapping away at a keyboard means I have no idea of how the banks and the instos need each other.
