Basically the higher the price you offer, the first in line you are for buying the shares. So when you really want shares are the end of the day you try to get at the start of the queue. Then the price depends on what the sell price offers are and the buy offers are, then they are balanced out. It's an auction. Hope that doesn't confuse you more.
