I do sometimes feel pretty dissapointed that we are not on the big battery band wagon in Oz, with so many installs announced. However it is worth rehashing the fundamentals
- We dont currently have a MW battery of any size anywhere, we have one contract to build one and we are learning by doing with new partners and engineering tech and processes.
- i think pretty much all of the grid batteries built so far have a high current output with short duration storage, we will offer the inverse.
- the regulatory environment is currently very favourable in the USA with a strong stated desire to progress flow batteries
- the regulatory environment in Australia is the opposite, the NEM is at breaking point with policy friction cutting across various regulatory bodies as well as state and federal governments, while the hornsdale battery aka tesla battery got fast tracked many other projects have stalled ,the huge lineup of wind and solar and battery projects that cannot get connection has sent some high profile companies to bankruptcy .Many others have liquidated assets and moved offshore.
- Rfx has identified niche markets and been very succesful over the last 12-18mths, by no means sustainable, but a strong foundation to become so. This is what Tesla did , identified a niche market , that was by no means sustainable and executed selling luxury electric cars to those who had interest and deep pockets.
- what do we have in common with Tesla, we have a completely new product that now has a track record, its success is building trust and pushing us down the manufacturing cost curve to cheaper and more desired products
