After reading that post again the following quote bodes well for Laninamivir:

"THERE IS AN URGENT NEED TO EXPAND THE AVAILABLE RANGE OF ANTIVIRAL DRUGS THAT CAN BE USED FOR PROPHYLAXIS OR TREATMENT OF INFLUENZA. "

Given Phase III success in Japan there seems to be a chance that the US regulators may provide some sort of acceleration given the current emergency setting. The Japanese trial was quite robust and more to come later this year.
