The Taliban have been around for circa 500/600 years, ToniEdi. They originally formed into a fighting force in the 1990s to end the bandits/criminals that were charging tolls on all the roads. From there they morphed to a religious police force out of control - and the rest is history. And yes, I believe they had some support from the ISI.
