This is very good news, and reinforces their new plan...

They will go co-exclusive on a lot of content moving forward to save money, but will pay up for certain 'critical' rights to keep on an exclusive basis. These key exclusive deals become the 'hook' that make customers choose Sky over alternatives.

It will be the same for sport moving forward too. I think we will see rights being shares between Sky and Spark before long. Sky will be happy with this if it saves money so long as they keep keep certain rights exclusive (rugby union and rugby league, perhaps some others).

And Spark will be open to it too if they have any sense. They are struggling to get enough important content...and the stuff they do get is costing them a fortune to take away from Sky on an exclusive basis. After all the money they have spent they still do not have a year-round offering (which is why they wanted rugby league, but didn't get it).

Interesting times. Sky can't afford everything exclusive anymore, but I think the penny has dropped now - because we don't actually have to in order to still have a compelling bundle offer.
