Hi,
Have been looking at this one for a while, probably passed me by now.
Always struggled to get clear in my mind what the prospects were for bau.
I understand the looming shortage for bauxite inputs into the chinese aluminium industry[likely 10million tons per year of metal] , but cant work out the likely production/exports from a bau mine to china.
Usually takes 4 tons of bauxite to make 2 tons of alumina, 2 tons of alumina for a ton of aluminium.
Therefore about 40mill tons of bauxite needed[not all imported of course].
So what would be bau's share be, keeping in mind chinalco's aurukun project likely to produce about 6 million tons?
If 3 to 4 mill tons per year, would a profit of 7 to 8 million dollars per year be reasonable?
That would support a share price of about 70cents eventually?
Haven't factored in the potential for alumina production, as that is in its infancy, and lots of obstacles[energy costs, present world overcapacity, exchange rate].
May have this all wrong, any comments/criticisms, gratefully accepted.
cheers
