Probably too simplistic to just introduce democracy when there isn't may functioning institutions with checks and balances. I don't know much about Afghanistan but I am now reading that corruption is endemic is Govt ministry including the military. Groups of tribes are changing sides like our democratic swing voters! Add to this, Americans are using the military to ignite democratic reforms. This isn't the function of the military.
Which democratic reforms has America been successful since WW2? Just saying.
The irony is that we followed America to cut out the incubators of terrorism 20 years ago which was the right thing to do. We over stayed and caused a generations of Afghanis dependent on Foreign aid and a propped up army. We have just left to see an even more extreme version of Islam (ISIS-K) now infecting the country even the Taliban find unappetising!
If my read is correct, ISIS-K will kick start a new campaign of foreign recruits just like ISIS among the major European cities. We are back to square 1!
