I agree that Labor is not over flowing with talent. They are mainly a bunch of ex trade union hacks, ex public servants, socialists and left wing hangers on, looking for something to attach to. Am I being too generous?
But, Labor has the luxury of being in government. That means, the Opposition will have to defeat them. That's where, in my opinion, the Opposition needs to get some fresh talent (just like Labor did with the "popular" candidates, and also get some clear and distinct policies out to the electorate.
I very much agree with billys previous post that the Opposition also needs to agree with the Labor policies that have proven popular, and put up clear alternatives to those that haven't. It's all about good politics.
The jury is very much still out on the climate change debate. Yes, the electorate want some action on climate change, and rightly so, but not at the expense of the economy and jobs.
This is a very real opportunity being presented to the Opposition, but they are molly coddling over the whole thing, presently. They need to make some clear alternate policy on this issue as I think that this is where the Rudd government is currently, quite vulnerable. Industrial relations is another area where ground can be made with sensible alternate policy.
The Liberals, especially,in my opinion, need to present good policy, and stop trying to make cheap political points against Mr Rudd. The voters are sick of that rubbish.
It should be remembered, that the next election will be fought in the face of rising interest rates and perhaps, unfortunately, higher unemployment and rising bankruptcies.
