Good breakdown so sounds like any functionalities will be fairly basic and not really as dedicated and reliable as Zoleo - my understanding is Globalstar is not the most reliable satellite coverage and also may not operate in all countries, their network is nothing of Iridium.

This seems more like Apple just want a little added feature but when the device may say walk 50 or 100 m to get coverage this might be an issue if you have snapped your leg in half! Also sounds like it is not designed to message loved ones for a chat.

Of course still concerning as this is perhaps a starting point but not sure it is necessarily all that bad and may in fact draw attention to the need for these devices.
