    And not seeing anyone in the suburbs is how most Australians like it. I lived in Hong Kong for 4 years - was a good place to work. But far too overpopulated, polluted, lack of green space etc for me to live long term.

    Beautiful federation homes are being pulled down within a km of the Pacific Highway in Sydney because the state government wants more apartments for population growth. This means less space, more demand for water, more pollution etc. Pretty much all the population growth is immigration

    As for more people generally, Australia is the driest continent in the world. There are water shortages in many towns and cities and more people only exacerbate this.
