The basic SRAM circuit was invented decades ago, so it is in the public domain.

The particular configuration of SRAM used in Akida would be protected under mask work legislation (Circuit Layouts Act) as part of the Akida mask work and would be owned by Brainchip. In addition, the circuit arrangement may be protected under Brainchip patents.
The Circuit Layouts Act was introduced at the insistance of the US in 1989.
