It's a bit vague, the way I interpret it is in the literal sense that they "can take" an interest in a company under a certain value and once they have "taken" that interest it doesn't matter what happens to it's value.
The alternative interpretation is that the value must remain under a certain amount, if it gets too high they have to offload some or all of it.
