Companies offer $219 million for Brazilian blocks

International oil and gas companies including Brazil's Petrobras offered $219 million in bids in Brazil's 6th oil and gas licensing round. Bidders Royal Dutch/Shell, Repsol YPF, Statoil, Kerr-McGee, Devon Energy and Portugal's Petrogal, among others, committed to spend a minimum of $666 million on the exploratory licenses. Brazil's National Petroleum Agency said the round's results surpassed the previous five auctions. A total of 154 blocks received bids including 89 onshore, 55 in deepwater and 10 in shallow waters. Statoil was awarded operatorships for four deepwater blocks and interests in two other licenses on the Brazilian continental shelf.
