    Worse Lucky,
The concept that electric cars will help Australia meet any 2050 carbon neutral obligations is a political myth. With possibly the exception being Tasmania, god bless them.
The majority of Aus' electricity comes from coal fired power stations, wrt. Or - why raise that - petrol powered cars are far cleaner than cars charged by electricity generated by coal. Forget the waffle, solar and wind will not cut it, the average electric car uses just under half the electricity an average house per year. That alone means, if we don't change our electricity generation only more pollution with every new electric car on Aussie roads. We need Clean base load electricity. Batteries? Bill Gates recent said - batteries will not be an economic proposition until their costs fall by 95%. At the mo' government subsidies cover the gap. The government is waffling about gas powered electricity generation, wtf? That proposition is only fractionally better than coal but will not get Australia to carbon neutral by 2050. Japan stated same this week.
    So what is going on?
    1. Both sides of the houses in Canberra know the facts
    2. There is a Federal election next year and neither sides of the gutless houses wants to confront the elephant in the room.
    3. All the Members, on both sides of the Houses want, is to be re-elected. Stuff the fact that all the 'magic pudding' green subsidies are wasting money that could be better spent on health, education or equitable projects.
Sad, politicians may sound nice but they just can't face losing.
Perhaps not soon but Australia's gormless leaders will be dragged by their crotches to confront the base load issue and the only current solution the World has.
