After oil, silver is one of the most widely used commodities on the planet. Silver demand has surpassed production in many of the past years. To me, the most astounding fact when it comes to making asymmetric market bets is that:

Silver is the only commodity in the world that is
currently priced lower today than it was back in 1980.

In nominal terms, silver is more than 50% cheaper today than in 1980, but that's the amateur's way of looking at it, since we must adjust this to inflation!

Doing this shows that silver is more like 82% below its 1980 and 2011 nominal highs, according to experts on inflation. Using the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U), we can see that the peak was reached at $140/ounce, which would require silver to more than quadruple from today's spot price.

In the kind of economic environment we could be heading into, silver could make up for lost time:

Silver's industrial demand is not the main driver of price. To truly understand why we believe that it could more than dramatically appreciate from here, the most compelling data is the current level of investment demand because both in 1980 and in 2011, it was the retail investor that made the appreciation possible.

The retail investor is alive and well today.

Investment demand for physical metal has never been higher!

A number of the key people that have worked with gold mining pioneer and self-made billionaire Pierre Lassonde, who chaired the World Gold Council and has projected gold prices to hit $25,000/ounce, or those that have intimately done fieldwork and research with self-made mining billionaire Robert Friedland, think silver is the metal to be in!
