I have been giving R327 some thought. Dental abscess is a huge world periodontal problem with approximately 80 to 90 % of Indians suffering from the same.
All members here know that R327 is being developed as a synthetic anti biotic . What is very interesting is that R327 has anti gram negative pathogen properties ( gram negative pathogen has a different outer cell make up than gram positive pathogen , it's harder for normal anti biotics to break the cell barrier).
In Dentistry they have identified 10 gram negative pathogens. So, in relation to a tooth abscess that is close to the brain , it is a huge worry if one can't afford a dentist or is away from help.
An old mate of mine was an XO of an Australian Submarine and I asked him what happens if you are on a 90 day patrol and the above happens. The answer given is that the Medical Officer gives an anti biotic ointment to place and massage on the abscess. ( Three times per day for three days and then review)
So to follow that theory is there a place for R327 in that field ? I can't see why not and I will send an email to Michelle Dilizia ( RCE Chief Scientific Officer) for comment.
A cheap efficient ointment that can used for many indications. Not just burns. This is one very exciting compound.
