The trains passing is not that big an issue on a single rail line. My brother drives coal trains in the HUnter, my dad was a former driver of freight trains between Sydney and Brisbane. Many of these rail lines have only singla tracks. They manage passing trains and 'over-taking' by having 'side-rails' where one train pulls in - the second passes, and the train moves back out onto the main section. Its worked all over the world for years!
